Webinar Purpose

The purpose of this webinar is to introduce both a vision for what the health of riverscapes could be and some of the tools and datasets available for the Montana/Dakotas to help identify what is possible where. Specifically, the vision for the Riverscape Consortium’s next generation of riverscape tools and data to support riverscape planning, restoration, implementation, monitoring, stewardship and citizen science will be shared.

Format / Agenda

There will be a mix of lecture, interactive desktop exercises, and discussion throughout. Rough Agenda:

  • 10:00 to 10:15 - Introductions & Overview
  • 10:15 to 11:00 - Lecture on Riverscapes Vision with Q&A
  • 11:00 to 11:45 - Hands-On Demos in webRAVE
  • 11:45 to 12:15 - Q&A Discussion
  • 12:15 to 12:30ish - Advanced ArcRAVE and QRAVE demos in QGIS

The target audience for the webinar is BLM staff and partners in conservation throughout Montana and the Dakotas. The webinar will help those interested in maintaining or improving the health of riverscapes with low-tech PBR and the help of beaver.

Preparation Prior to Webinar

  1. Register with link from BLM
  2. Read/Skim Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 of design manual. We will be discussing tools that help estimate riverscape health condition and potential (described in Chapter 2 ) and address questions posed during planning (discussed in Chapter 3 and its Appendices) .
  3. Create an account at the Riverscapes Consortium’s Warehouse
  4. Optionally, install RAVE, download a few projects from warehouse in one watershed, and unzip.

For the webinar, we will refer to the Design Manual and the Pocket Guide, which are both available free digitally. As part of your workshop registration fee. Print copies of manual are available for ~ $60 on Amazon and print runs of the pocket guide can be purchased here.
